"the way+從句"結構在英語教科書中出現的頻率較高, the way 是先行詞, 其后是定語從句.它有三種表達形式:1) the way+that 2)the way+ in which 3)the way + 從句(省略了that或in which),在通常情況下, 用in which 引導的定語從句最為正式,用that的次之,而省略了關系代詞that 或 in which 的, 反而顯得更自然,最為常用.如下面三句話所示,其意義相同.

三.在當代美國英語中,"the way+從句"也常作為狀語,相當與"in any way(that or in which)+從句或in any manner in which +從句", 其含義是"不管/不論用什么方式".

四.在美國口語中, in the same way , in this(that ) way, in another way 等詞組里的in經常省略.
1)They plant the corn the same way their ancestors used to do 500 years ago.
他們種玉米的方式同五百年前他們祖先種的方式一樣

2)He went this(that,the other)way.
他朝著這(那,另一)邊走了.
(this/that /the other way=in the wrong way/manner)

1).come one's way撞見某人,與某人不期而遇.
